When I first started using Social Media back in 2006, I was told by my older siblings to not interact with strangers. I was told that most of the strangers would try to act like they are my friends but at the end of the day, they are just going to manipulate me and get me in some major trouble. At that time, I was only twelve years old and I was using Orkut as my social media platform to interact with family and friends. I don't know if any of you remember Orkut, but it was pretty cool back then and more popular than Facebook in Southeast Asia from 2004-2007.
Fast-forward to the year 2020, ten years after moving to the US, I started to interact with strangers on the internet (Twitter). Why? I wanted to interact with cool gamers because I discovered that not only do I love playing awesome games but I like to talk about them as well. Secondly, I had turned twenty-six by June 2020, so I knew who I could talk to and who I would need to avoid. As I started to interact with gamers on Twitter, I learned more about games and gaming consoles. Some gamers shared awesome gameplays of the games I had not played before. Some of them showed off their beautiful physical collections of past and present games. Some of them got me into multiplayer games like Halo and Rocket League.
In 2020, I had like only thirty followers or less. Today, I have four hundred-plus followers and twenty of them are my friends now. Some of them live thousands of miles away from me, but they are now my brothers. Yes, most so-called gamers on Twitter are very toxic, but every now and then you will get to interact with some of the greatest people in the world. All of my twenty buds (except for one and I'll talk about him) either play on all consoles or they respect all of the gaming platforms.
I wanna acknowledge some of my gaming buddies on Twitter. First up is Beowulf1426, also known as Dragon. It took me only a second to know that this dude is awesome after I went through his profile. For his profile picture, he has Kazuma Kiryu from the Yakuza series. Those who have played any of the Yakuza games would know that Kiryu is a badass character. If you are going to model yourself after him, you are going to end up being awesome. So Dragon is all about gaming, movies, and music, and he also likes to read. I have been talking to him since the summer of 2020. Some of his favorite games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Resident Evil 4 are also my all-time favorite games and we both like Kiryu from Yakuza. His only problem is that he considers The Last of Us Part II as a masterpiece. I try to tell him it’s a good game but not a masterpiece, but he just won't listen. Anyways, he is a big Mass Effect and JRPG fan, and he is just awesome to talk to. He keeps it real and he is very good at heart. Follow him right now!
Next up, Ak_bhatia. One of the coolest and nicest dudes on the internet. Smart, funny, plays every game except The Witcher 3 (he needs to fix this), and he is a good friend of mine. I think he was one of my first few friends here on Twitter. Never had a heated exchange with him, even once. I have played a couple of games with him on Xbox. He helped me beat TMNT: Shredder's Revenge last year. I'm very lucky to know him. Also, if you love Bioshock, just follow him right away. He likes nothing more than Bioshock games.
Chris Marasky. Another awesome person who I consider a friend. We started following each other I believe six months ago or more. In those six months, I have seen him interact with gamers with respect and humility. There is nothing wrong with this dude except he gave Resident Evil 4 Remake a score of 3.75/5 and he for some reason will not play Red Dead Redemption 2. Who in the world would give RE4 Remake a 3.75/5? Anyways, Chris' favorite game is Mass Effect 2 and if you like the Mass Effect series, Cyberpunk 2077, or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, follow him right now!
I really don't wanna talk about this next guy, but let's just get this over. Wolf_InSouL, I love you man but you got problems (joking). He has been my brother since late 2021. I started following him just when I beat my and his all-time favorite, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Wolf loves his Soulsborne games and he is really good at them. Just like Dragon, he considers TLOU2 a masterpiece, and he likes Hellblade and Ninja Theory way too much. After the Game Awards 2021, I was kinda disappointed that Ninja Theory didn't show the combat/gameplay of Hellblade II and I shared that sentiment on Twitter. Wolf didn't quite understand what I was saying and he went off on me. He was trying to tell me that what they showed at the Game Awards was incredible and I have no idea how hard it is to develop a game like Hellblade II. Well, he was right about me not knowing anything about game development, but all I was saying was that I wanted to see Senua (the protagonist from HB2) in action. I wanted to see her fighting bad guys, demons, or some evil creatures. It took him a good night's sleep to realize what I was trying to say and we settled our confusion. Haven't had any arguments since then and we are still brothers. Follow him if you want to.
Let's talk about PeterMichaelwi3. Another guy who I have been following since 2020 or early 2021. Peter has a great history with Xbox and wants the Xbox brand to succeed. He has a good collection of the original Xbox and Xbox 360 games along with Xbox One and new Series X games. The dude just loves to game and he enjoys talking games. He has a good heart and really cares about the gaming community. If I ever need a retweet to get views for my blogs, this guy will do it without even wasting a second. Another good thing about Peter is that he won't argue with you or get super defensive if you point out some incorrect information in his tweets. Some guys on Twitter just don't like to be proven wrong. Peter likes to learn and he doesn't mind when someone corrects him. We need more people on the internet who are as open-minded as Peter. Follow him now!
I have to acknowledge one fanboy here and that is JapanQC, also known as Jap. This guy, with Japan in his name, just straight-up hates Japanese products, especially PlayStation. If we take out the fanboy part, he's a great dude who just likes Xbox way too much. Jap was the first gamer to follow me back on Twitter. We have been talking and arguing since January of 2020. Our conversations might not make any sense, but they are fun and memorable. He is one of the few gamers I know who beat Elden Ring in a week or less. Yes, most times he is delusional, but I would still recommend you to follow him. Definitely follow him if you like Xbox, Halo, Toronto Raptors, Alanah Pearce, and if you prefer Pepsi over Coke. Don't block him if he gets on your nerves.
There is a gaming legend on Twitter. He goes by the name Boxenberger. I can't tell you how happy I was when he followed me back on Twitter. It felt like I was finally being acknowledged. There are a few people on this entire planet (not just Twitter) who are as graceful as Boxenberger. I have never seen him be disrespectful to anyone. He is very knowledgeable about games and technology. He brings excitement and positive energy to the gaming community every single day. He is very good at educating us gamers about recent gaming news and trends. Overall, he is just a super nice dude through and through. His only problem is that he doesn't like pineapple on pizza. I have been telling him to try pineapple and jalapenos on pizza. That's a really good combo and all my family members love it. Besides that, this dude is perfect. Follow him on Twitter and on YouTube (Boxenberger - YouTube) if you want to learn more about gaming across all platforms and if you want to be a better person. We love you, Boxenberger.
Now let's talk about someone who has given me so much in less than three years. He is the reason why I decided to write this blog to appreciate all the special people who I have met on Twitter since late 2019. OldPixel1984, my friend, my dude, and my brother. Formerly known as Pixel Witcher, but since he is an old man now, he goes by the name Old Pixel. Also, he did the right thing by changing his name from Pixel Witcher to Old Pixel because he apparently likes TLOU2 more than The Witcher 3. You can't add Witcher in your name and prefer TLOU2 over Witcher 3. I still can't believe how he put TLOU2 over Witcher 3 in his all-time ranking for games. Anyways, I have been following him since mid-2020 and I have played lots of games with him on Xbox. He helped me a lot with The Ascent, as I was really bad at it. I never got to finish it but one day we will go back to it and try to complete it. He jokes around, pokes fun at me, and annoys me sometimes with his gaming takes, but nobody on Twitter supports me as much as he has so far. Pixel from time to time sends me messages to remind me that he is very proud of what I have become. He was the first one to congratulate me on my wedding. Like Peter Williams, he always retweets my blogs to get me more views. For the last blog that I posted, he quote-tweeted it and this is what he said about it: "This man is one of the greatest persons I have met on Twitter. He is just nice, kind, and a smart person. Seeing him writing blogs about games and Xbox is really special. Go read his writing about the Showcase. Keep being awesome brother."
Pixel's words meant the world to me. I honestly think now I can achieve my goals. My goal is to either be a writer for the Xbox team or work as a member of their marketing team. I would love to work with Sarah Bond, who is the Corporate Vice President at Xbox. If not Xbox, then I wouldn't mind working for PlayStation, IGN, or gaming studios like Rocksteady, Insomniac Games, or CD Projekt Red :)
Pixel and the rest of my Twitter peeps have really boosted my confidence and they have inspired me to write more and learn more about gaming. I always wanted to be a part of the gaming world, but I didn't work hard enough for it, as the drive and passion were missing. Pixel helped me out big-time by highlighting that I am capable of doing special things in the gaming space. I will always be grateful to him.
Thank you Pixel, Dragon, Boxenberger, Peter Williams, JAP, Chris Marasky, WolfinSouL, and AK_Bhatia for being so awesome and being there when I needed you all.
I also would like to give shoutout to Manu962k, BTbenTR, SwastikSwayam, True4kView_YT, FusionAJ, RealArbiter, Brinxington1, TheFranJau, SpinSpun11, AngelG326, FarmFruits, BluishSanity, Nintendont_64, and Ozymandias88. They are awesome, super fun to talk to, and they all are amazing people through and through.
