What Exactly Led Me to Get a PS5 in 2021?

I've been an Xbox guy since the summer of 2008 and went twelve straight years just playing games on Xbox consoles. It was in January 2020 when I was gifted a PS4 slim along with three games by my former boss. I couldn't believe it and was thrilled to receive a gaming console with games as a gift as it showed that my boss was very proud of the work I was doing for him and the company. Besides feeling good about myself for being acknowledged, I was also very happy that I was going to play some amazing games that I had missed out on between 2013 to 2019, along with the new games that were coming out in 2020 exclusively on PlayStation 4.

In 2020, I played and enjoyed many games on my Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 consoles. Being able to experience God of War, The Last of Us 1 & Part 2, Marvel's Spider-Man, Uncharted 4, Days Gone, and Ghost of Tsushima all in the same year was just special. I wish I could go back to 2020 and experience those games again. Yes, I know 2020 was a horrendous year overall, but gaming-wise, it was one of the best. However, as much as I enjoyed those amazing games on my PS4, I had no intentions of buying a PS5 at all. I honestly preferred to play all my games on one console and I wanted the upcoming Xbox Series X to be that one console. There was nothing wrong with PlayStation 4 or that it was boring all of a sudden. It just felt like I had played whatever I wanted to play on PlayStation and I should just continue playing all the multiplatform and Xbox first-party games on Xbox Series X.

Sure, I knew back then that I was going to miss some fantastic games like Spider-Man 2 and possibly the next God of War game, but I also knew that I was still going to have lots of other amazing games to play on my Xbox Series X. Plus, I figured I was going to get real busy with my life since I was getting married soon, so I decided to save money and time by not buying a PS5. Well, things changed in September 2021. On September 9th, 2021, PlayStation did an amazing showcase for their upcoming games on PS5. I watched that entire show live, but I wasn't watching the show to give myself a reason to buy a PS5. I just wanted to stay up to date with the gaming world.

Some of my favorite superheroes are Batman (yes, he is a superhero), Spider-Man, The Flash, Wolverine, Superman, and Wonder Woman. I knew for sure that Spider-Man 2 by Insomniac Games was going to be featured during the showcase, but I wasn't expecting an announcement of another Marvel superhero game. When Insomniac Games and Marvel logos were first shown during the showcase, we all thought we were going to see the Spider-Man 2 trailer. But no, it was something else. It was better! It was a trailer for Marvel's Wolverine. When I saw the claws come out during that CGI trailer, I was like "Damn, I gotta get myself a PS5 now."

Yes, to spend $500 ($550 after tax) on a console for just one game is kinda dumb, and I actually thought to myself that $500, plus another $70, is a lot of money for just one game. But that one game is a Wolverine game by Insomniac. Wolverine is my second favorite superhero (Batman is number one) and to not be able to play a next-gen game with him would be a bummer. Also, to know that Insomniac Games is developing a Wolverine game is a huge win for all of us. We know they are capable of delivering some amazing experiences like Marvel's Spider-Man, Sunset Overdrive, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and the Resistance games. So we know we will be getting a quality Wolverine game whenever it comes out.

Even after the Wolverine announcement, I was still not committed to buying a PS5 console, but the PlayStation showcase had more in store for us gamers. They then showed off Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and God of War: Ragnarok. Both were expected to be featured during the showcase. I really had a great time playing Marvel's Spider-Man and God of War 2018, and to this day, they are still my top two PlayStation 4/5 games. Both of them are excellent games with great combat, storytelling, characters, and setting. New York City looked absolutely stunning in Spider-Man 2018.

By deciding to not get a PS5 console for this current generation, I knew I was going to miss out on Spider-Man 2 and Ragnarok, and I was okay with it. Then I watched the Spider-Man 2 trailer during the showcase and once again I said to myself, "I gotta get a PS5." Insomniac Games just know how to get our attention. This time, they did it by revealing Venom at the end of the trailer. The way he was revealed was just absolutely perfect. I really liked Venom's voice in the trailer and to see him confront both Peter Parker and Miles Morales from the shadows was pretty dope. I have always liked Venom's character as a kid, and to know that he will be a part of the game, really sold me. We will be playing Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on our PS5s in less than one hundred days.

Now, I'm gonna be honest. I wasn't really impressed with God of War Ragnarok's trailer/gameplay presentation, as it came off like a DLC to 2018's God of War. However, after re-watching the trailer two-three times more and reading other people's comments, I realized that the 2018 game already looked beautiful and played exceptionally well on my PS4 slim. So if the sequel looks pretty much the same, runs at a smooth 60 FPS, and takes advantage of PS5's power and speed, it's going to be a great experience. Also, I was interested to see where the story was gonna go and how the boss fight between Kratos and Thor was going to conclude.

So if I was going to get a PS5, I was definitely going to buy God of War Ragnarok, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, and Marvel's Wolverine day one. But I was still trying to decide if I should get a PS5 or not, or should I wait until all three of these games are out? Well, just a week or so after the showcase, I got an email from PlayStation Direct. PlayStation offered me an exclusive invitation to order a PS5 of my choice. I was offered a $500 physical console or a $400 digital one. During those days, it was really hard to find PS5 consoles anywhere as they were pretty much out of stock all the time. After reading that email from PlayStation, I said to myself, "it is either now or never."

I ended up ordering a digital PS5 console!

Basically, the announcement of Marvel's Wolverine by Insomniac Games, seeing Venom in Spider-Man 2, wanting to experience God of War Ragnarok on PS5, and the exclusive invitation to get a PS5 directly from PlayStation, led me to get a PS5 console. Although, I also wanted to check out the DualSense controller as everyone was hyping it as the best controller ever, but still, it wasn't a major factor in getting a PS5. DualSense is pretty awesome but the battery life is awful. I would recommend every new PS5 owner to get a ten-foot-long cable cord for your DualSense so you can charge it and still play games on your PS5 from your couch.

I have been gaming on my PS5 for almost two years now and I have to say I made the right decision by getting it when it was available for me to grab. I have already played God of War Ragnarok on PS5 and had a great time with it. I also played Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and it played like a dream on my PS5. Because of the 60 FPS mode, swinging through New York City and taking out bad guys with web shooters never felt better. I can't wait to play Spider-Man 2 along with Stellar Blade, Lost Soul Aside, and Rise of the Ronin on my PS5. Once I'm done with those four games, all my attention will shift toward Wolverine. It is going to be special!

Will Xbox Ever Beat PlayStation In Sales?

We all have our favorites. Favorite food, favorite city, favorite movie, favorite band, favorite game, and favorite console (of course there is more stuff but I was just giving you some examples). I love video games. To be more specific, I love pure action adult games with excellent looking graphics. I apologize to all those who love indie games and or games that look cartoonish, but that's just not my thing. To be honest, I don't understand how so many of twenty-plus-year-old play games like Cuphead, Zelda, Mario games, Untitled Goose, and more. Not saying they are bad games and don't have challenging missions, but the graphics of those games and how the characters appear and behave makes them look very kiddish. I bought myself 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' because I needed to know why this game is considered a masterpiece and one of the best games on Nintendo Switch. Not gonna lie, I was very excited as the game was loading and about to start. Th...

This Year's PlayStation Showcase Was Just Okay..

Yesterday's show wasn't that bad. If you care about games in general and not just about exclusives, then yesterday's PlayStation Showcase was really good. However, it doesn't matter what we care about. The purpose of the showcase was for PlayStation to show off the games their first-party studios were working on. That's what we saw in their last showcase in 2021, which was excellent. Since last week, when it was announced that PlayStation would be doing a showcase this week, our excitement went through the roof and we all started making predictions. Before I talk about all the games we were expecting to see last night, let's touch on some of the games and some extra stuff that we all got to see.      One game that caught the attention of many gamers was Phantom Blade Zero. Those who know me would tell you that I like nothing more than a third-person action-adventure game with sword combat. I buy such games instantly. What I saw from the gameplay reveal...

Xbox Game Pass Can Be Very Controversial On Twitter.

There are some things in this world that are hard to explain. These days people attempt to do weird and stupid things to catch attention. If you post something nice and educational on the internet, chances are you will get 10 to 40 likes if you have 1000 followers on Twitter or Instagram. If you post something controversial, you could get 10K likes and a whole lot of engagement in the comment section like no problem. In the gaming community, unless you are a popular streamer, when you post an excellent gameplay clip or anything positive related to gaming, you get a few cool gamers liking your post and maybe retweeting it. You might get a few bots on Twitter retweeting your post as well. If you post anything negative or anything to devalue one platform, your tweet will get retweeted by so many people with whom you never even interacted on the internet. Half of them will be applauding you and the other half will call you a clown. Either way, you get the attention. ...
